Nationality

You would be surprised how often it comes up in conversations, but within the melting pot that is the United States of America, it can be interesting to see where your genes come from.  My family has done a lot of our genealogy, so I was able to trace back much of my nationality:

Note that the grey and pink areas labeled "American" and "Canadian" really mean that my genealogy has not been traced yet out of North America.

Making this is fairly simple:  I am 1/2 my dad + 1/2 my mom.  Neither of them are foreign, so I have to go back a generation:  My dad is 1/2 his dad + 1/2 his mom.  I keep going until finally I make it to a foreign country and can identify their nationality.  Then I add them all up, and that's how I get me!

One interesting thing to keep in mind:  Really, we are all related.  You don't even have to go back to Adam or Noah to find a common ancestor.  According to one piece of research, the mathematical models show that if you go back just a few millenniums, then we are all related.
